Lambda Alpha Upsilon was founded on December 10, 1985 at the State University
of New York at Buffalo. The sixteen founding fathers had a dream of uniting
the Latino community and raising the awareness of Latino culture on their
campus. Since then, Lambda Alpha Upsilon has continued to work hard to keep
that dream alive. Through community service, educational, and entertaining
functions, Lambda Alpha Upsilon strives to perpetuate its Latino-oriented
culture at the University of Buffalo and abroad. Although Lambda Alpha Upsilon
is a Latin American-oriented fraternity, that does not mean it just accepts
Latino members. Lambda Alpha Upsilon's brotherhood is made up of various
backgrounds. It uses this diversity to its advantage to learn from its members
and preserve its strong brotherly bond. Lambda Alpha Upsilon believes that
the time has come for the Latino community as a people to reach its potential
and become and integral part of society. Latinos have been and will be an
influence around the world, and in the United States of America the Latino
community will be the largest ethnic community by the year 2050. Be aware
though, that in order for us to accept this challenge we must be prepared.
we the members of Lambda Alpha Upsilon are working hard as the architects
and builders of the foundation of the future. Through our growth as a people,
we Latinos must not forget our heritage and culture, because these are the
roots which forms the common bond between us. As Latinos we have been making
our mark in the history books of life and we must now pave the path and
prepare the torch for the next generation to carry on. We must be deeply
rooted in the highest ideals and morals, so that our light can shine throughout
the world. |
