This was a special year for Lambda Alpha Upsilon Fraternity, Inc. (LAU), as it relates to its annual national philanthropy, AIDS Walk New York . The Hermanos of Lambda Alpha Upsilon have always provided financial and physical support to this cause. This year, Lambda Alpha Upsilon raised the most funds in its long history of volunteering and fundraising for AIDS walk New York , leading all registered Greek-letter organizations. With much hard work and effort, the Hermanos added over $3,000 to the record $5.8 million raised overall by AIDS Walk New York 2005. Hermano Luis González , an alumnus of St. John's University , topped all Hermanos by raising over $1,200 individually and achieving “ Star Walker ” status (an accolade presented by the AIDS Walk committee for those who raise a total of $1,000 or more). The fraternity honored Luis with free tickets to its 20 th annual Lambda Day awards banquet, free tickets to the Mets vs. Yankees Subway Series, and a special commemorative award for his outstanding leadership in community service and philanthropy. “Even though this is our national philanthropy, the prizes are a nice incentive, I could not think of a better cause to dedicate my efforts to,” explained González, “AIDS is an unavoidable problem not only within the Latino community, but in the minority community overall, and I am honored with the opportunity to have some type of impact against it.” Supporting the National AIDS Walk in New York City is Lambda Alpha Upsilon's national philanthropy and the fraternity looks forward to surpassing the impressive numbers that were posted this year through our outstanding fundraising efforts for 2006. |
