National Puerto Rican Day Parade Inc. and Lambda Alpha Upsilon make history.

New York , NY – Since 1958, on each second Sunday of June, Latinos gather in Midtown Manhattan from all across the nation to celebrate Puerto Rican culture, pride and spirit. For the past 10 years this celebration has included the Hermanos of Latino America Unida, Lambda Alpha Upsilon fraternity Inc (LAU) marching and strolling before thousands of the Puerto Rican faithful. This year was no exception and for the first time in the history of LAU's participation in this enormous event, LAU sponsored its very own float. This was also a first for the National Puerto Rican Day Parade Inc. Since its inception in 1995 and thus the official handling of all float registrations, LAU is the first greek lettered organization to sponsor its own official float. “This is a huge accomplishment not only for us but for all greek lettered organizations” exclaimed Puerto Rican Day Parade Director for LAU, and proud Puerto Rican, Hermano Juan Rios, “we have worked very long and extremely hard to finally have our own float and we are honored to represent our organization and Puerto Rican heritage on such a scale.” As expected, LAU had a street team of 20+ Hermanos along side their float performing strolls throughout the parade for a very enthusiastic crowd. “We walked over 45 blocks and probably performed about 30 strolls in between,” stated a sweaty Kelvin Ruiz, Hermano and street team line leader, “we could not have done half that amount if it wasn't for the energy of this crowd.”

Aboard the float performing their smash hit Mira Mira (look look) featuring Pit Bull was Latino Hip-Hop sensations; T-Weaponz along with D.J. Premier of the Heavy Hitterz . The group was also filming live and on location for the video to thier soon to be released single; Who Want What? (Quien Quiere Que?) . “This is an honor to collaborate with our fellow Latinos, the Hermanos of LAU and celebrate Puerto Rican Pride,” exclaimed Izreal, member of T-Weaponz and Proud Puerto Rican. Group members also include: Arkitek and Psalmz Puerto Ricans and Brooklyn Natives. Be on the lookout for T-Weaponz new CD/DVD combination coming Fall of 05 which will feature the brothers of LAU performing their signature strolls along with exclusive interviews seen only on this CD/DVD. Also co-sponsoring the float was Airwear NYC an airbrush portrait apparel company and providing press coverage was Who? Mag.

This was the last of a three event series that took place for LAU this weekend beginning with their Pre-Puerto Rican Day Celebration boat party aboard the Queen of Hearts, and participation in the Silk 4 Latinostep Inc. national Stroll tournament. LAU looks forward to working with T-Weaponz and Defiant Entertainment again for next year's Puerto Rican day parade.
